News

21.4.2008:
Run Firefox 3 with with Webconverger - the cool web kiosk distro - http://webconverger.com/

Of course rootz can run FF3 kiosk from your existing linux...

19.3.2008:
Released rootz 0.4!

11.3.2008:
rootz 0.3.3 was released tonight and includes mostly bug fixes. See rootz page for more on that.

The next version is going to be 0.4, which is going to be much more flexible. For instance, not only dchroot and firefox can be used, but also chroot will work and other browsers. Many of the options would be configurable and easier to change per system. Like single user mode, I mentioned before, will be supported by the config. After that rootz will be puppy-ready, and probably more_distro-ready :)

After some hacking of rootz on puppy - mostly done by Paul, it is now proven that rootz can work on puppy - see some screenshots. But to make it all work together not in an ugly way, some work must be done - I listed the stuff in the todo list (not just for puppy of course!). I hope I didn't miss something... feel free to add stuff you think needed. Feel more than free to play with the code and implement some of the things, or new ideas.

7.3.2008:
A new integration with puppy linux is underway. This is a good opportunity to make rootz more standard and flexible. New bugs are discovered and will be fixed in version 0.3.3. One of the main differences is that puppy runs normally with a single user - that is root! s/dchroot is not mandatory and plain chroot is enough, but with few enhancements such as chroot list (like /etc/dchroot.conf). More on this stuff soon...

4.2.2008:
With the release of version 0.3.2, rootz is now posix compliant:

Support shells like dash, ksh, zsh (removed bashism)
Also fixed nonexistent dchroot.conf handling.

1.2.2008:
Added some screenshots of applications running with rootz

12.1.2008:
I am pleased to announce the release of rootz 0.3.1. This realease includes only one simple feature enhancement, but a very important one:

Support for plain chroot - uncompressed directory containing a complete system (like / dir). With this option, it is actually possible to manually mount virtually any kind of image (also cloop based), using any kind of filesystem (sshfs?). Afterwards rootz will easily hook to the mounted image.

I will soon update the wiki, and will give some examples on how to connect to various distros, which rootz cannot use automatically.

Also in this release, some bug fixes and better handling of the command given to rootz-launcher.

10.1.2008:
There was a problem with the compiled versions of httpfs, and it was fixed...

The binaries are at https://svn.bountysource.com/vamos/trunk/release/httpfs/

8.1.2008:
